Maha to build 19.4 lakh affordable flats by 2022
79 projects and 2.15 lakh houses cleared so far in PMAY
Mumbai: Under the Centre’s affordable-housing scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the Maharashtra government has so far approved 79 projects across the state, barring Mumbai, which will comprise of more than 2 lakh affordable houses. The state government has declared that it will construct a total of 19.4 lakh affordable houses under the scheme within the 2022 deadline.
In Pune, Konkan, Nagpur, Nashik and Amaravati, a total of 51 projects have been approved, which will provide 1.21 lakh houses. In smaller municipal areas like Solapur, Pimpri, Washim, Barshi, Parabhani, Gadchiroli, Ichalkaranji, a total of 28 projects have been approved to provide 71,000 houses, an official document of the housing department accessed by The Asian Age said. These houses include 1.4 lakh for economically weaker section, 37,000 for lower income groups, 14,766 for middle income groups and 166 for higher income groups.
The government has begun work at 18 places across the state, which will provide 48,680 houses. These houses will be for all income groups. In seven projects, the government has completed the bidding process in Konkan, Pune, Aurangabad and Nagpur areas that will have 27,522 houses. The government has undertaken bidding process for 13 housing projects whereas 25 projects are still awaiting bidding process, the documents said.
In the PMAY scheme, the Centre provides Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh and the state contributes Rs 1 lakh to the beneficiaries. The allotment of government land is of Rs 1 per sq my while Rs 1,000 is charged as stamp duty for the economically weaker sections.
The Centre has released its first installment of Rs 371 crore of which Rs 7.44 crore was given to Akola Municipal Corporation and Rs 36 crore to Amaravati Municipal Corporation. MHADA has received Rs 159 crore under the same scheme.
