Mumbai: After experiencing the lowest maximum at 24.2 degree Celsius on February 8, day temperature in city has been on a continuous rise. At present, the maximum stands at 35.1 degrees, four degrees above the normal average, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

However, the city’s minimum temperature is at 15.4 degrees, which is below normal, by two degrees.

The IMD has predicted that these conditions will remain intact for the next four to five days.

In the wake of this high diurnal variation between day and night temperatures, Mumbai-kars will experience warm days followed by cold nights.

According to Skymet Weather, a private wea-ther forecasting agency, the reason for the increase in temperature can be attributed to the reversal of wind direction.

“Weather will start warming up with a gradual rise in temperatures because of change in wind profile. The cool and dry northwesterly winds will be replaced by warm winds from the east or southeast direction, thereby causing  ri-se in temperatures,” sa-id Mahesh Palawat, he-ad of Skymet Weather.

Days are expected to turn warm and humid, while nights will remain comfortable.

The city temperature is expected to dip, with nights recording mercury levels up to 15 degrees Celsius from Saturday as the cold winds from the north return to Mumbai.
