100 barred from taking final sem exam
The college on the other hand is adamant about the Mumbai University's 75 per cent attendance rule.
Mumbai: Kandivali's KES Shroff College has detained over 100 students belonging to B.Com first year from appearing for their final semester examinations that will begin from Thursday. The reason for this is the low attendance of the students.
While the mandatory attendance percentage formulated by the Universiy of Mumbai (MU) is 75 per cent per semester, the students’ attendance percentage according to the college is below 60 per cent, according to the college.
"Other colleges allow the student to appear for the examination even when many students have only 50 per cent attendance. It is unfair what the college is doing to the students," said a parent who was standing outside the college campus to meet the Principal.
"Though we know 75 per cent is the mandatory attendance percentage, the Principal should give some kind of provisions instead of directly detaining us from giving the exams," said a student, who remained absent for around 10 to 12 days because of family emergency.
Other students, who protested outside of college, claimed to have medical or personal emergency because of which they have low attendance. The college on the other hand is adamant about the Mumbai University's 75 per cent attendance rule.
Dr. Lily Bhushan, the Principal of KES Shroff College told The Asian Age, "Rules are the same for each and every student. All the students who remained absent or who missed the lectures were notified and informed beforehand about the consequences of doing the same. They did not bother to understand and now we have no option but to follow the rules laid by the Mumbai University.”
