Mumbai: The Bombay high court chided the state for dragging its feet on the school bus safety issue and has suggested that new schools be asked to give an undertaking of following school bus safety norms.

A division bench of justices Naresh Patil and G.S. Kulkarni was hearing a public interest litigation filed by the PTA United Forum claiming that the government was lethargic and callous in its approach while it came to regulating school bus operators in the state as a result of which the lives of children were being put in danger

After hearing the submissions, the bench directed the state to also inform whether there was constant surveillance on the existing bus contractors and school buses and said the same should be carried out diligently.
