Parsi colony locals oppose tree cutting

Mumbai: BMC’s plans to widen roads in Parsi Colony at Dadar have met with stiff resistance from locals. Residents fear that the area’s green cover, which is also marked as a heritage precinct, will be destroyed due to cutting of trees for widening the roads. A campaign to protest against the plan has been launched.

The BMC has tabled a proposal before the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee to widen some roads in Parsi Colony, which are less than nine metres in width. The roads encircle gardens in the area, like Rustom Tirandaz Garden, Wadala Garden and Wadia Park.

Zarine Engineer, a resident from the area, said, “We are concerned for the area. Trees add to the beauty of the Parsi Colony.”
