Prosecution seeks death penalty for abductor
The convict had abducted the teen to pay a debt he had incurred after losing a bet on IPL match in 2013.
Mumbai: The prosecution on Wednesday sought capital punishment for the Vigesh Sanghvi who was convicted on Monday for abducting and murdering the teenage son of a diamond merchant in 2013.

Special public prosecutor Kalpana Chavan on Wednesday argued before the court that it was not in the spur of the moment that Sanghvi attacked 13-year-old Adit Ranka but the convict committed the murder with a cool mind and in a well-planned manner.
She also argued before judge S.B. Agrawal that the convict is an MBA and was doing business and he is from a well to do family. She added that there was no need for him to commit such a crime but he kidnapped the boy who had faith in him.
According to her, the fact that murder was planned, committed with cool mind and the convict also attempted to misguide police by burning body of the boy and later threw it on Mumbai-Pune expressway makes it rarest of rare case, and hence the court should award him a death sentence.
On the other hand, Sanghvi’s lawyer sought leniency, saying he is young.
The defence lawyer also argued that the accused does not have a criminal background and the act does not fall in rarest of rare case.
After hearing the arguments, the judge posted the matter for pronouncing punishment on Thursday. On May 13, 2013, Sanghvi had killed Adit Ranka after kidnapping him.
