Congress demands arrest, NCP wants fair probe
Police officials assured them to take action against Patekar.
Mumbai: The Congress demanded the arrest of veteran film actor Nana Patekar and others as the Oshiwara police registered the FIR against them on the complaint of actor Tanushree Dutta. While the NCP Thursday said it wanted a “fair” investigation into Tanushree's allegations of sexual harassment against Patekar.
The ladies wing of Congress workers agitated on Thursday at Oshiwara police station demanding arrest of Patekar as police registered the FIR against him. Police officials assured them to take action against Patekar.
NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said that, the #Metoo campaign, which is sweeping mainly the media and entertainment industries with many women coming forward with their accounts of sexual harassment they had faced in the past, would achieve its goal only when the guilty people are brought to book.
He said the NCP's stand on the issue is that the harassed women should approach the investigating authorities to lodge complaints against their tormentors.
