MNS not allowed to hold press meet at BMC's office
The pressroom was even locked to prevent them from doing so.
Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters witnessed high drama on Thursday as leaders of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) were disallowed by the civic administration, apparently under pressure from the ruling Shiv Sena, to hold a press conference. The pressroom was even locked to prevent them from doing so.
The MNS leaders had come to the BMC headquarters to raise their objection against the reservation of a municipal gymkhana plot at Shivaji Park, which was changed to municipal housing in the Development Plan (DP) 2034. Former corporator, Mr Sandeep Deshpande of the MNS said, “The BMC is planning to convert the gymkhana into a mayor's bungalow. Nearly 10,000 municipal employees will be affected if that happens. We will continue to raise our objection towards it.”
Led by Mr Deshpande, the MNS leaders reached the BMC Public Relation Officer (PRO)’s chamber to question the move. The PRO told them that protocol needs to be followed to hold any conference in the BMC pressroom and that it had not been followed in this case.
