Teen booked for raping 10-year-old

Mumbai: The Deonar police has registered a case of sexual assault after a 17-year-old boy was caught raping a 10-year-old girl from the same Shivaji Nagar neighbourhood.
The victim’s mother caught the accused and raised an alarm, after which, the police was informed about the incident.
The incident took place Wednesday when the victim was alone at her residence. The accused came there under the pretext of talking to her and forced himself on her. However, he ran out of luck after the girl’s mother reached home just in time to catch him in the act. She raised an alarm following which neighbours rushed to the spot and nabbed the accused. The locals informed the Deonar police, which arrested the accused teenager soon after.
When the girl’s mother coaxed her to reveal what happened in detail, the girl told her that he had indulged in such acts in the past as well. The girl narrated the ordeal to her mother, which came as a shock as the boy is a relative of the family and used to frequent the victim’s residence. The girl’s family never suspected anything like that, the police said.
“Based on the statement of the girl and the eyewitness accounts, we have registered a case against the boy and are investigating the incident further,” said an officer from the Deonar police station. The boy will be sent to a children’s home however the investigators will probe if he targeted other girls, too, in a similar fashion.
The Deonar police has booked the teenager under sections 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
