Mumbai: Businessman run over by luxury bus

The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared brought dead'.

Mumbai: A 31-year-old motorcycle-borne businessman was run over by a luxury bus near Sion Hospital on Saturday morning, allegedly due to the driver’s negligence. The driver had lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the bus ramming the motorcycle. He was arrested later.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared ‘brought dead’. The bus driver, Wilson Verghese K.V. (42), was arrested by the Sion police for negligent driving. The accident occurred at 9 am near the South wing of the Sion Hospital where the luxury bus driver Wilson Verghese K.V. (42) allegedly dashed the motorcycle Pratap Parihar was riding and accidentally ran over him. Pratap, a businessman, was heading to work when the mishap took place.

According to preliminary investigations, the driver was neither under the influence of any drugs nor was he drunk. Hence the case is not registered under IPC Section 185 for drink and drive.

 Following the probe, a case was registered under IPC Section 279 and 304 for rash or negligent driving and punishment for culpable homicide amounting to murder respectively.   

A senior police official said, “We made the arrest immediately after the case was registered. There will be further investigation about the accident, looking into any mechanical issues. We have registered the case against the accused under negligent driving IPC Section 279 and 304”.

The father of the deceased, Jayraj Dagarji Parihar (60) registered a complaint at Sion police station. The accused have been remanded until further investigation.
