Mumbai: The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) have unofficially accepted the demand of constructing a station at Princess Docks for the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT), revealed an MbPT official.

The station will be included in its plan of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Panvel elevated corridor. The station will be between Yellow Gate and Orange Gate of MbPT.

The station was proposed by the port trust keeping in view the traffic that the area will receive after eastern seafront development.

“A section of 2km stretch of the corridor passes through the MbPT land, hence we had demanded a station be built at Princess Dock. We received an in-principal nod from the railway board for the same. With the development of eastern sea-front, a station in the area will help in easy mobility,” said an official from MbPT. The tracks will pass at P’Dmello road for a distance of 2 kms.

The MbPT is planning to refurbish the ‘Gadhiyal Godi’ (Clock Tower) at Princess Dock, and convert it into a museum. Along with the same, leisure activities and restaurants are planned on the eastern seafront. Hence, the MbPT is expecting more crowd in the area in future.

“The elevated corridor and a station at Princess Dock will enable the people to easily reach clock tower,” added the official.

“We will provide connectivity from Princess Dock to new Masjid station at the new harbour line platform. The current harbour line platform will be shifted to elevated line,” said an MRVC official.
