Thackerays in stripes has internet roaring
Animated short film shows Sena chief Uddhav and his son Aaditya as tiger and cub respectively.
Mumbai: Political parties have taken to the video medium to promote themselves and take potshots at one another. One such video, which has gone viral, is a cartoon depicting Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya Thackeray as a tiger and his cub.
In the animated short film, the tiger, in a bid to placate his crying cub, fetches him a penguin. But the aquatic bird perishes immediately. This cartoon is based on the recent penguin death controversy, over which the Opposition had attacked the Shiv Sena and Aaditya Thackeray in particular. The video starts with tag line ‘Khau Sena’, and is set outside the Mumbai Zoo, famously called as Rani baugh.
The video, which was tweeted by Congress MLA Nitesh Rane, has a message that reads, ‘Penguin ka kiya game khallas, Tiger ne diya Mumbai ko trass’, which loosely translates to ‘The tiger killed the penguin and troubled Mumbai.’
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has created a video of its own depicting a tap with no water and a man claiming that the current Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation dispensation hasn’t given them anything. This video was shared by Sachin Ahir, the Mumbai NCP president. The tagline of the NCP video is “Tyani bighadavala amhi ghadavu”, meaning ‘They spoilt it. We will construct it.’
Similarly, Congress city president Sanjay Nirupam uses WhatsApp and Twitter on a daily basis to send out videos that reflect his party’s manifesto. “The videos are 30 seconds long and highlights a single point in detail. This has become a better way to connect with voters and non-voters alike,” said a senior Congress leader.
On the other hand, backdated videos from some other states are being shared by political parties. For example, videos of BJP leaders talking about Acche Din in another state are being shared by Opposition party workers to mock them.
