Mumbai: In a bid to accelerate Metro line 5 (Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan) work, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has invited tenders to appoint a consultant to study the 24km-long corridor.

General consultants are expected to provide all necessary assistance to MMRDA during tendering and finalisation of the tender process. The work broadly includes planning, preliminary design, proof-checking of detailed designs, procurement, systems integration, project management, construction/erection supervision, testing and commissioning of the complete Metro 5 project. Bidders have been called upon to submit their bids between March 14 and May 14 this year.

Meanwhile, the survey of land for this corridor is still in process and will be conducted using drone technology; contractors for the same are yet to be appointed. The Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation gave its nod to the corridor in December last year.
