24-year-old man killed in bike accident near Haji Ali
The duo was on their way to Charni Road to pay their respects to the dead on the occasion of Shab-e-Baraat.
Mumbai: A 24-year-old Malad resident, Mohsin Shaikh, was killed in a bike accident near Haji Ali when his two-wheeler got run over by a speeding tanker. His cousin, Farhan, who was riding the bike, sustained injuries and has been paralysed from waist down after both his legs were crushed by the tanker.
The duo was on their way to Charni Road to pay their respects to the dead on the occasion of Shab-e-Baraat. Soon after the accident, they were rushed to Jaslok Hospital while Tardeo police booked the unidentified tanker driver for negligent driving.
According to Tardeo police sources, the incident occurred late night Thursday, when Mohsin, along with Farhan, left for the graveyard at Charni Road to pay respect to the dead as part of Shab-e-Baraat tradition. While returning, the bike collided with a tanker near Haji Ali. Mohsin, who was riding pillion, suffered a severe head injury while Farhan was left paralysed. The tanker driver fled from the spot.
Senior police inspector of Tardeo police station told The Asian Age, “We have registered a case of negligent driving and are checking CCTV footage of the vicinity to zero in on the absconding accused. One of the boys succumbed to a severe head injury while the other is under treatment.”
Locals rushed the duo to civic-run Jaslok Hospital where Farhan was treated for his injuries while Mohsin was declared dead on arrival.
