The BJP already proclaims itself as the defender of the rights of Muslim women, especially on the question of triple talaq.

Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the Legislative Council election for the prestigious Beed-Osmanabad-Latur constituency. The election became the talking point after Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) candidate had pulled out of the contest at the last minute, after which the party lent its support to an independent candidate. The election was also viewed as a battle between the state cabinet minister Pankaja Munde and Opposition leader, Dhananjay Munde. By ensuring victory for the BJP candidate, Ms Munde outsmarted her estranged cousin.

BJP candidate Suresh Dhas won this election defeating NCP and Congress supported independent candidate Ashok Jagdale. This election was from the members of local bodies. Congress and NCP had almost 80 votes more than BJP. But, BJP’s Mr Dhas not only covered the gap but also pulled almost same number of votes from NCP camp.
