Panel to address farmers' loan waiver concerns

The state cooperative department issued a government resolution (GR) in this regard Friday.

It is alleged that banks are delaying crediting the money in farmers' loan accounts.

Mumbai: The state government has constituted a committee at the tehsil level to address farmers’ grievances related to the loan waiver scheme, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Shetkari Sanman Yojana (2017). The state cooperative department issued a government resolution (GR) in this regard Friday.

According to the GR, in order to resolve farmers’ grievances in connection with the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Shetkari Sanman Yojana (2017), a committee has been constituted at the tehsil level. The assistant registrar of the cooperative institution (concerned tehsil) will be chairman of the committee. The taluka representative of the district central cooperative bank, representative of a leading bank at tehsil level, auditor (concerned taluka) and cooperative officer (grade 1) will be members of the committee. The cooperative officer will be the member-secretary of the committee.

The GR further said that the committee will conduct a meeting every week about farmers’ grievances pertaining to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Shetkari Sanman Yojana. The committee will work to resolve farmers’ grievances. It will continue to work till the scheme continues.

The chief minister Devendra Fadnavis-led state government had announced the loan waiver scheme, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Shetkari Sanman Yojana, in July 2017 after farmers’ held state-wide protests.

In the recently concluded monsoon session, a supplementary demand was tabled where a provision of '25,000 crore was made for the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Shetkari Sanman Scheme (2017).
