Mumbai: NCP chief Sharad Pawar has appealed to farmers to de-throne the BJP in the coming elections. He made this appeal during a meeting of farmers’ organisations in Mumbai on Monday. The meeting was organised by the All India Kisan Sabha of Communist Party of India (Marxist) and leaders from the Congress, NCP and other Opposition parties were present. Other leaders also expressed the need for unity among all Opposition parties.

“Under the Modi government, agriculture has seen a major setback in the last four years. Government reports say that their income has not increased and farmers are still to get MSP for their crops. We will have to change this situation. For that, we will have to change this government,” said Mr Pawar.

Congress state chief Ashok Chavan said, “We are united and ready to take on this government. This is the message that must be sent from here.”

AIKS leader Ashok Dhavale accused the government of hoodwinking  farmers and said peasants across the state are ready for the struggle.
