State opposes Anand Teltumbde's ABA in court
State argued that the Bhima-Koregaon accused received Rs 10 lakh from CPI (Maoist).
Mumbai: The state government has vehemently opposed the anticipatory bail application (ABA) of professor Anand Teltumbde, accused of instigating riots at Bhima-Koregaon.
The state government argued that professor Teltumbde is an active member of the banned outfit, CPI (Maoist), and its frontal Naxalite organisations, and works as a recruiter and fund collector for these organisations. Justice P.D. Naik was hearing the ABA of Teltumbde and journalist Gautam Navlakha. Special public prosecutor Aruna Pai argued before the court that the investigation has gone beyond Bhima-Koregaon and the riots, and that professor Teltumbde’s name came up for the first time in August 2018.
Ms Pai argued, “How professor Teltumbde’s name appeared in another accused’s laptop and whether it is permissible as per law or not will be decided during the trial and not at the stage of the ABA.”
Ms Pai argued that in the investigation and owing to the letters found in another accused’s laptop, the police had found that Teltumbde is an active member of the CPI (Maoist) and its frontal organisations like Anuradha Gandhi Memorial (AGM), Committee for Protection of Democratic Rights, and Indian Association of People’s Lawyers.
Letters found in Rona Wilson’s laptop stated that comrade Prakash had written a letter to comrade Teltumbde wherein they spoke of how dalit movements should be started in the country to break down law and order.
Ms Pai also argued that professor Teltumbde had received '10 lakh from the central leadership of the CPI (Maoist) to organise international seminars on the dalit movement.
Ms Pai also alleged that professor Teltumbde was a recruiter and fundraiser for the banned organisations.
