BMC expedites razing of illegal buildings
According to civic officials, a three-storey illegal structure was constructed on an area of about 3,000 square feet near Versova jetty.
Mumbai: In the wake of the suspension of Sudhanshu Dwivedi, assistant municipal commissioner of N ward, for reportedly encouraging illegal constructions, civic officials in other wards have expedited action against such structures in their areas. In K-West ward, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) demolished five illegal buildings in Versova Gaothan on Thursday.
According to civic officials, a three-storey illegal structure was constructed on an area of about 3,000 square feet near Versova jetty.
In addition to this, unauthorised constructions, which also included commercial structures, were on at four other spaces on nearly 8,500 square foot land. All the five structures were demolished by the BMC’s anti-encroachment squad with the help of the police.
“Along with these demolitions, we also found that a 450-square-foot flat was illegally constructed on a podium space at the second floor in Rehan Tower building, which is located on Bandivali Hill Marg. Taking serious note of this, we demolished the illegal flat and other additions in the building,” said K-West assistant municipal commissioner Prashant Gaikwad.
On the Captain Suresh Samant Marg, a lot of illegal structures had cropped up due to which the road had become narrow, causing traffic snarls and inconvenience to commuters. Twenty such structures were removed by the BMC, he added.
