CDR case: Total 14 have been nabbed

Mumbai: The Thane police are examining a new batch of 145 mobile numbers procured from accused detectives arrested in the case for having acquired Call Detail Records (CDR) illegally. The police had earlier found out that there were 325 mobile numbers in the possession of the accused detectives, and out of those 180 were earlier checked and verified by the cops, and details were scanned related to the ownership of the numbers. As a part of the second batch, the police are now looking into the other 145 numbers.

According to the police sources, 145 mobile numbers will be checked now, and the reason behind the numbers being there will be probed. An officer said that the new batch of numbers might reveal the names of other private detectives who could have procured these call details in an illegal manner.

The police have given the numbers to the respective telecom companies, and the information will soon be sought from the companies, which will reveal more about the scam.

There have been a total of 14 arrests so far in the CDR case, which includes a police constable from Haflong, Assam’s cyber cell, whose custody is not with the Thane cops yet. Lady detective Rajani Pandit and celebrity lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui have managed to get bail from those arrested so far.

In fact, Siddiqui’s arrest and release through a Bombay high court order also let the Thane cops red-faced who ordered a departmental inquiry against the cops for their high-handedness. The cops sought refuge in a special leave petition filed in the Supreme Court, which put an interim stay on the HC order.
