Safety rules ignored in MRI death: Probe
The report also indicates that on the day of the tragedy, the hospital staffers were overburdened with patients.
Mumbai: After an over two-month wait, an internal committee has finally submitted its preliminary findings on the January accident at civic-run Nair hospital, where a 32-year-old attendant lost his life after getting sucked into a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine.
Lalbaug resident Rajesh Maru died due to the MRI machine at Nair hospital on January 27 this year.
According to the CCTV footage, the ward boy and an ayah (female attendant) are responsible for not following safety rules as they did not stop the attendant from carrying an otherwise prohibited metallic oxygen cylinder into the MRI room.
The report also indicates that on the day of the tragedy, the hospital staffers were overburdened with patients. Further, the hospital did not follow the policy of having just two members for each patient.
According to Idzes Kundan, additional municipal commissioner (health), “Through the CCTV footage, we found out that the ward boy and the ayah at the MRI centre did not follow safety rules. They should have stopped Mr Maru from going inside with the cylinder. They have already been suspended after the incident, and we will hold another enquiry.”
