Mumbai University to miss result deadline: Teachers
Teachers have alleged that the university is trying to save face by issuing such false assurances.
Mumbai: Despite assurances by the Mumbai University on declaring final year results of all streams by July 31, teachers and professors of the varsity have opined that the same will not be achieved as the assessment process is going at a snail’s pace and moderation has not even started. Teachers have alleged that the university is trying to save face by issuing such false assurances and have demanded that the higher and technical education ministry take note of the harassment students are undergoing and take action against the vice-chancellor.
Speaking about the delay in results for exams held in April and May, representatives of the Mumbai wing of Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisation (MFUCTO) said that the ambitious plan of the vice-chancellor Dr Sanjay Deshmukh to digitise assessment process was a failure and was started too late.
“Teachers stayed home during the entire summer vacation expecting calls from the university to report for assessment work at the Centralised Assessment Programme (CAP) centres. But, it was only after a few days after colleges reopened that the university woke up and started calling teachers for assessment,” said a member of MFUCTO.
“Teachers are being asked to report for assessment without proper appointment letters. Tomorrow after the results are declared and if students object to the marks, then who will be responsible?” said an office holder of MFUCTO during a meeting held to announce the nationwide agitation on July 24 at Jantar Mantar, Delhi for the failure of the state and Centre to implement 7th pay commission recommendations.
Another member said, “Around half the answer papers need to be moderated after assessment. With slow assessment, how can the university claim that both the procedures can be completed before July 31?” said Tapati Mukhop-adhyay, president,
MFUCTO.
When asked about this issue, an university official admitted that they were right but the university was trying its best to expedite the process and meet the deadline.
