Showers bring much needed break from heat

Since June, the city has received 717 milimetres (Santa Cruz) and 603.5 mm (Colaba) rainfall till date.

Mumbai: Mumbaikars received some respite from the heat on Thursday, as the city received showers through the day after a brief dry spell. The National Weather Forecasting Centre of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in madhya Maharashtra on Friday as well as in isolated places in Gujarat. The city is likely to receive intermittent rains or showers on Friday. These are likely to occur in the city and suburbs with heavy falls at isolated places.

Neha Katdare, a management professional said, “Cloudy weather and irregular rains made the day cooler, which was a great break from the sweaty days witnessed since last few weeks. The city needs rains not only for us but also for our crops.” Pranali Sahasrabudhe, an architect said, “The city had received good rainfall last year but the situation looks difficult till now. Rains on Thursday brought happiness. Hope they will continue for the coming days.”

Since June, the city has received 717 milimetres (Santa Cruz) and 603.5 mm (Colaba) rainfall till date. The temperature recorded on Thursday was 32 and 31.6 degrees in Santa Cruz and Colaba respectively, while the minimum  recorded was 27.4 degrees (Santa Cruz) and 28 degrees Celsius (Colaba).

The IMD stated the temperature of places like Madhya Pradesh, madhya Maharashtra, isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, east Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh and east Rajasthan to be appreciably below normal.  According to the forecast, Friday will be cooler as the maximum temperature  is expected to drop to 30-degree Celsius and minimum to 24 degrees Celsius.
