Inaction by government led to agitation: Farmers
The proposed farmers' agitation will again bring these issues back before the government.
Mumbai: Agitating farmers said that their proposed agitation from Monday against the government is a result of the government’s failure in putting in place a mechanism to address their issues related to loan waiver and crop insurance. Till now, the state cooperative department has not even determined the exact number of farmers who could be beneficiaries of the government’s farm loan waiver scheme, they said.
On the other hand, lakhs of farmers missed availing the crop insurance scheme as the deadline for the filing applications was not extended beyond August 5. It was alleged that due to the elaborate online procedure, a majority of the farmers missed the eadline, as they were not conversant with it. The proposed farmers’ agitation will again bring these issues back before the government.
The core committee of the farmers’ agitation had gone to almost every district since July 15. It was trying to inform the people about the criteria drawn up by the state government for farmers’ loan waiver.
