Mumbai: Five out of the 426 students of Govandi’s BMC School number 1 — who were admitted to civic-run Rajawadi Hospital after panic spread on Friday following the death of a 12-year-old schoolgirl — are still in the hospital. The children were admitted when they complained of stomachache and nausea after consuming iron and de-worming pills distributed in a BMC school.

Dr Vidya Thakur, medical superintendent of Rajawadi Hospital, said, “Currently, we have five children admitted, of whom, one kid has dengue-like symptoms while the remaining have fever, cold and cough. We have already started with the required treatment and the blood reports will reveal whether dengue is there or not. The rest are fine and will be soon discharged.”

Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) collected and laboratory-tested samples of the drugs that were distributed, and found that the drugs did not contain any such thing to make students fall sick. On their part, civic officials claimed that the kids were admitted due to monsoon-related ailments.

On Friday, around 426 children from Baiganwadi Shivaji Nagar slum in Govandi were rushed to the civic-run Rajawadi and Shatabdi hospitals when they complained of stomachache and nausea after consuming iron and deworming pills.
