Mumbai: A petition was filed in the Bombay high court on Monday against the permission given by BMC to sacrifice goats, sheep in the society premises, footpath, and pavements and on public road as well as outside the civic-run Deonar abattoir on the occasion of Bakri Id that would be celebrated on January 23. The petition also objected against the online licence given by the BMC to sacrifice animals and sought restriction on issuance of such licences.

The petition has been filed by Jeev Maitri Trust, which stated that the Deonar abattoir is equipped with all facilities such as effluent and proper disposal of waste and solid material. However, outside the Deonar abattoir such facilities are not available. It further stated that the sacrifice of animals on footpaths, and pavements could create health hazards.
