Project-affected persons refuse to shift to Mahul

Mumbai: Owing to the lack of civic amenities, a majority of the people who are affected by Brihanmumbai municipal corporation’s (BMC) various projects are not keen on relocating to Mahul, an alternate accommodation provided by the BMC.

According to corporators, project-affected persons (PAPs) living there are facing lot of inconvenience at Mahul due to the dismal living conditions at Mahul. The PAPs are unhappy with the pollution, contaminated water, substandard elevators, lack of hospitals, schools and buses, garbage and bad connectivity at Mahul.

The civic body has undertaken several projects like Brimstowad, road widening, removal of Tansa pipeline encroachments etc for which the civic body has to provide alternate accommodation to the PAPs. A majority of the people have been provided alternate housing at Mahul.

Shiv Sena corporator Mangesh Satamkar said, “People are willing to shift to Mahul, but basic amenities are absent there.” BJP leader Manoj Kotak wants the civic body to make a substantial financial provision to provide better civic amenities to Mahul residents.

“The civic body should allot Rs 300 crore in the budget to provide amenities like roads, sewerage, hospitals, storm water drains at Mahul,” he said.
