Mumbai: The Azad Maidan police registered a case of cheating after a person was duped of Rs 7.50 lakh on the promise of a job in a renowned Russian company. The accused also forged an appointment letter of the said company and cheated the victim, a Byculla resident.

The police said that the accused persons met the victim, Zia-ul-Kamar Ansari (25), in January 2012, at a restaurant near Espla-nade Court, and claimed connections in Russia. They said they were looking for a person and could offer him a job.

“The accused took money in several installments from Ansari and also shared some forged documents with him in return,” said an officer of the Azad Maidan police station.

In subsequent meetings with Ansari, the accused persons also gave him an appointment letter of one Rosseti Power Company, claiming that the company had selected Ansari. However, they stopped communicating with Ansari after the payment was made.

Ansari tried to contact them to complete the remaining recruitment procedure but in vain. He then approached Azad Maidan police station and lodged a complaint against the acc-used persons.
