Mumbai: The Bombay high court is hearing a petition filed by a student praying for directions to the state CET cell to extend the dates of admission for the law course by a week as many law colleges have vacant seats which will go waste.

The petition was prompted after the student failed to get admission in the three online and one offline rounds of admission held by the cell till December 7. The cell has however said that it cannot continue admissions interminably.

A division bench of justices B.R. Gavai and B.P. Colabawalla was hearing the petition filed by Manali Sawant, daughter of Nandkumar Sawant an officer of the high court.

The petition said that after the four rounds of admissions were over on December 7 she had approached some law colleges in the city seeking admission.

Her joy at being told that they had vacant seats turned to dismay as they informed her that though they had vacant seats they could not admit her as the state CET cell had closed admissions.
