Homeopathy clinics for 16 BMC hospitals
Former Congress corporator Ajanta Yadav had demanded that the BMC should provide facility of homeopathic treatments in its civic hospitals.
Mumbai: In a move to bring relief to people seeking homeopathic treatment, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to open homeopathic clinics in sixteen peripheral municipal hospitals in the city.
“The BMC has planned to start homeopathic clinics in its peripheral hospitals. A proposal would be tabled and the process of starting the clinics would soon be completed,” said a senior civic official.
Former Congress corporator Ajanta Yadav had demanded that the BMC should provide facility of homeopathic treatments in its civic hospitals. “For several ailments, homeopathy has proved to be an effective treatment without any side effects. The homeopathy clinics would be beneficial for common people, who want to avail this treatment,” she had said.
For the homeopathic clinics, the BMC is considering hiring doctors who have studied Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) from municipal hospitals.
A senior civic official said, “This is a policy decision, which will be taken by the municipal commissioner. There are large numbers of patients in the city who seek homeopathic treatment, who will be benefited immensely by this move.”
Presently, the civic body provides allopathic and ayurvedic treatment facility in its hospitals. There are ayurvedic clinics in all five major civic hospitals.
In 2008, the then mayor Shubha Raul had demanded that the BMC should start Ayurvedic hospital in the city. However, no decision has been taken on this so far.
