JJ pillars to be illuminated to beautify garden
Illegal parking under the flyover has been stopped, claims senior civic ward official.
Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to illuminate the pillars of JJ flyover with colourful lights in a bid to beautify its underbelly.
The proposal to beautify the 2.5 km flyover at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore has been forwarded to the senior BMC officials for approval.
Civic body’s ‘B’ ward (Sandhurst Road, Nagpada, Mohammed Ali Road) has taken up the initiative and around 33 pillars between JJ Police station to Crawford market are slated to be covered in the project.
“As a part of the beautification program, we have stopped the illegal parking under the flyover. Red, green, blue and white lights are set to complement the LED bollard lights that will be installed in the garden. To be energy efficient, we will ensure that the illumination will not be longer than five or six hours, probably between 7 pm and 12 am,” said a senior civic ward official.
Further, the official added that plantations and seating arrangements will be prominently present in the garden and encroacher will be restricted from occupying the space.
The end result is expected to be a replica of the civic body’s work on Nanalal D. Mehta flyover at Wadala, where a garden has been created under the bridge.
It also has a 600-metres long jogging track with plantations on the side, designed for the citizens to take a leisure walk or relax for a while.
