Mumbai: The Matunga police on Wednesday nabbed four alleged drug addicts who were found to be present inside the civic- run Ackworth Leprosy Hospital, Wadala in an unauthorised manner. The police acted after a few of the hospital inmates approached them after having spotted the addicts inside the facility’s premise. The inmates had requested them to leave but their plea was turned down.

A few patients complained that addicts often intrude inside the hospital’s compound to consume drugs, away from the eyes of enforcement authorities. The patients also alleged that at times their belongings were forcibly taken away by the addicts who carried out illegal activities like stealing taps., An inmate, who did not wish to be named said, “Our hospital has become a den for addicts for the past few days.” She claimed, “Despite repeated complaints to the administration of the hospital, the situation has remained unchanged.”

Subhash Sable, assistant police inspector of Matunga Police Station, said, “After receiving a call we rushed immediately to the spot and we took custody of four people.” He said, “ Three of them have confessed that they were taking ganja. One of them is claiming that they are students, so we have called their parents.”
