Eleven villages are protesting against proposed green refinery in Nanar, Ratnagiri.

Mumbai: After an oral assurance from chief minister Devendra Fadnavis that the government will not go ahead with land acquisition for the proposed Nanar Green Refinery project, the president of the Konkan Refinery Virodhi Sangharsh Sanghatana, Ashok Walamb withdrew the agitation being held at Azad Maidan.

However, Mr Walamb has announced that he would go an indefinite hunger strike since Mr Fadnavis had not given a written assurance.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Rajya Sabha candidate Narayan Rane held a long discussion in the evening with the group’s representatives and requested them to trust the chief minister.

“So, we have withdrawn the agitation in Mumbai, but it will continue if the government goes ahead with the project,” the Sangathan’s general secretary Nitin Jathar said.
