MHADA to repair 850 dilapidated buildings
In case, tenants have budge for repairs, then the structure will not be declared dilapidated.
Mumbai: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development (MHADA) is set to undertake repair work on 850 dilapidated buildings in the city. The names of the most dangerous structures will be announced by the end of this month.
According to MHADA officials from the repair board, highly dangerous buildings will be vacated before the onset of monsoon and the civic body will be directed to cut off water and electricity supply of such structures immediately. Last year, around nine such dilapidated buildings were vacated by the authority.
“These 850 structures are among the ones which were identified for repairs this year. Last year too around 900 buildings were taken for repairs and targets have been achieved. These structures are repaired priority wise,” said a MHADA official from the repair board.
Meanwhile, the authority will classify as ‘dilapidated’, only those buildings, which do not have any funds or scope for repairs. In case, tenants have budge for repairs, then the structure will not be declared dilapidated.
