Mumbai: Heated words were exchanged on Thursday between officers of the civic tree committee and a few locals at Dadar’s DI Vaidya Road who objected to the trimming of trees. Two of the residents, Kunal and Shraddha Birwadakar, alleged that around 15 trees were hacked from the top since last two days by the civic team and more trees were being axed on Thursday.

However the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation  maintained that it was only carrying out trimming of the dangerous branches of the trees to prevent any tree-falling accidents.

“Most of the trees were completely hacked from the top with only few leaves remaining or even none in some cases. When we asked for permission today, the junior tree officer present at the site today said that they won’t show us the permissions too,” said Kunal Birwadakar.

Later in the day, the BMC has to stop the work after the clash.
