Relatives kill woman over property dispute

The relatives were armed with acid, paver blocks, and wooden sticks.

Mumbai: A woman was allegedly murdered by her relatives over a property dispute in Vile Parle. The relatives attacked her and another family member with paver blocks, and subsequently killed her in the Chikhalwadi area Wednesday night. The relatives were armed with acid, paver blocks, and wooden sticks.

The police has arrested four of the accused relatives. According to the police, Sandip Gurule, Mahendra Gurule, Sonam Gurule and Indu Gurule attacked Mayuri Gholam (42) and her daughter Mitali (19) with paver blocks and wooden sticks. The accused entered Mayuri’s residence i.e. room number 19 in Chikhalwadi, and started thrashing the mother-daughter duo at about 10.30pm. Mayuri died after sustaining grievous injuries while her daughter survived despite being seriously injured.

An officer of Vile Parle police station said, “All the accused persons are relatives of the complainant and her family. The accused had quarreled with Mayuri on several occasions, the bone of contention being their claim on the parental house that Mayuri and her daughter occupied.”

Wednesday night, all the accused forced their way into Mayuri’s house and got into a squabble which ended with them beating Mayuri with paver blocks. Three others were injured in the incident and are now recuperating at Cooper Hospital, the police said. While the accused were attacking Mayuri, the latter’s neighbours intervened inform ed the police.

The police has registered a case of murder under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
