Mumbai: After the death of 12-year-old Bablu Paswan who drowned in the pit at construction site of the Coastal Road project in Worli sea face area, the Brihanumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said the contractors and the project management consultants have deployed enough security and also barricaded the area at all Coastal Road sites.

Shiv Sena’s Arvind Sawant, who is the member of Parliament of the area, said, “The BMC cannot be blamed for every incident. The residents —  especially the parents — should be equally responsible. I wonder why the children were in the construction site after warning signs were put up there.”

Commenting on the incident, a senior officer from Coastal Road department said, “The pit was to collect the rainwater and waterlogging at the site. The spot is in the interior of the construction site where entry for civilians is strictly restricted with warning boards. Senior officers along with police are investigating how the children entered the area despite the presence of security.”

Reportedly, the Worli police station recorded an accidental death report and said total three boys, including the victim, were playing inside the construction sites which is right behind a public toilet.

Bablu lost his balance through the protective sacs and fell into the pit. The other two boys called for security guards who then took the unconscious Bablu to the hospital. On arriving at Nair Hospital, Bablu was  declared dead. The boy resided at Madraswadi slum adjoining the construction site.
