CR services held up due to stir
The first local from Kasara was cancelled due to the derailment of an observation van at Umbarmali.
Mumbai: Central Railway (CR) services were affected due to protests by commuters at Vasind station on Friday morning. The first local from Kasara was cancelled due to the derailment of an observation van at Umbarmali.
A rail inspection van supervising the overhead equipment derailed after midnight which had affected suburban local train services.
Thousands of commuters launched an agitation as there were no suburban train services between Asangaon-Kasara.
Workers were on duty to clear the tracks and start operations soon, but the stranded commuters started shouting slogans. Some even allegedly approached station
master’s office.
An official from Central Railway said, “As per latest information, the agitation has ended at Vashind. We have started single line services in both directions. However, there will be delay in clearing all mail-express trains due to bunching.”
He said services were affected between Titwala and Kasara for some time and appealed to the commuters to desist from agitations as it would only lead to prolonging the restoration works.
