Central Railway increases pace of fifth, sixth lines' work
MRVC officials said that they would now expedite the works between Kalva and Mumbra for the fifth and sixth lines.
Mumbai: Almost three weeks ago, railway minister Piyush Goyal had pulled up the Central Railway (CR) and Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) over the fifth and sixth lines between Thane and Diva railway stations.
On Sunday, the CR took a nine-hour infrastructure upgrade block for cut and connection of the existing up slow line with the newly released down slow line between Mumbra and Kalva stations for the fifth and sixth line between Thane and Diva stations.
MRVC officials said that they would now expedite the works between Kalva and Mumbra for the fifth and sixth lines.
“The new down line has been used as slow down li-ne, while the old slow line has been converted as up line and the old up line will now be extended till Mumbra as the fifth line,” said a MRVC official. A new stretch would be laid down from Kalva to Mumbra as the sixth line, he added.
Officials said that the new line had created spa-ce for the fifth and sixth lines. “The fifth and sixth lines will be completed up to Mumbra by December 2018,” the official said.
The 5th and 6th lines project are expected to be completed by mid-2019.
