Maharashtra ATS detains MP man over alleged links to ISIS

Preliminary investigations allegedly revealed that Shaikh was in constant touch with one of the accused in the IS case.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has detained a man from Madhya Pradesh for his alleged links to those associated with the terror outfit Islamic State (IS).

ATS officials said that they came across his link in connection with the ongoing terror cases that are being investigated, and hence he was detained for questioning by a team of officials from the Nagpada unit.  The man was identified as Avesh Shaikh, a resident of Khargone town, however ATS officials are tight-lipped about his activities. Shaikh is stated to be techie and has completed his Masters in technology. He has been brought to Mumbai for questioning.

“We are investigating cases of those who had links with the IS and Shaikh’s link cropped up. We are trying to establish his exact role in the case, following which we would decide on arresting him, said a senior ATS officer.

Preliminary investigations allegedly revealed that Shaikh was in constant touch with one of the accused in the IS case. The police is scanning Shaikh’s computer and cell phone to gather details of his online trails.
