Mumbai: The work of replacing the old Tansa pipeline by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) at Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg in Wadala has been going on in full swing. The work is a part of the replacement of pipelines from Mahim to Dockyard Road, said civic officials.

“The work is divided into  two parts – Mahim to Dharavi  and from Maheshwari Udyan to Dockyard Road. In the Mahim to Dharavi Section, the work of replacing the old pipeline by 1500 mm diameter has already been completed. We have invited tenders for replacement of the pipeline by 1500 mm main at Dharavi,” said a senior official from the hydraulic department.

In the Maheshwari Udyan to Dockyard Road section, the 900 mm pipeline from Sion Hospital to Futka Tank has already been replaced and the water main was commissioned on December 24, 2016. The work of replacing the  pipeline by 1500 mm main from Futka Tank by Jerbai Wadia junction along the Kidwai Marg is in progress. The replacement of the 1500 mm pipeline from Jerbai Wadia Junction to Sant Savta Junction along Kidwai Marg has also been completed. The 1500 mm main replaced from Sant Savta Junction to Naya Nagar along BN Pal Marg was commissioned just recently on February 21, said the official.

 The BMC is also carrying out the works at Bhandup Complex and Dr Ambedkar Road at Parel. The water supply of South and Central Mumbai as well as eastern parts of the city is likely to be improved after completion of these works.

At Bhandup , replacement works of Tansa Main from Bhandup to Maroshi by 2400 mm diameter water main have been undertaken,  he added.
