Mumbai; Senior Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Raut, has sparked a controversy by mocking the election commission (EC) at a public function at Mira Road Sunday.

While speaking at the function on the occasion of Ram Navami, Raut said, “There is always a fear of the code of conduct. However, to hell with the law! We are those kind of people who would opt to say whatever is in our heart and mind rather than getting suffocated. Implications of the model code of conduct will be taken care of.”

Raut made this statement at a public function held at Mira Road Sunday. While speaking at the function organised by the Pratap Foundation on the occasion of Ram Navami, Mr Raut also said, “Even though the BJP and PM Narendra Modi have assured they will build the Ram Mandir, we too remain committed to the cause within five months of our new government formation.”

Sena legislator, Pratap Sarnaik, and other local leaders shared the dais when Raut made the controversial remark. However it was not clear if the Opposition registered an official complaint or the EC will take suo moto cognisance of the matter.

After an unsuccessful attempt on the eve of mun-icipal elections in August 2017, the Mira-Bhayandar unit of the Shiv Sena has once again adopted the social engineering formula to strike a chord with members of the north Indian community.
