Mumbai: Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Govardhan Kolekar — who sustained severe injuries while helping control the rioting incidents in Aurangabad last week — was airlifted and rushed to the trust-run Bombay Hospital on Monday.
Mr Kolekar had been admitted to Aurangabad’s United CIIGMA Hospital and was rushed to Mumbai for specialised treatment in view of his grievous injuries. The voice box in his throat is severely injured.
According to Dr Unmesh Takalkar of United CIIGMA Hospital, Mr Kolekar was shifted to Mumbai in a special aircraft for further medical treatment. Doctors treating him said that he was brought in a critical condition and his voice box had been critically injured.
Mr Kolekar was grievously injured after a heavy stone hit his throat, injuring his wind and food piple during the riots at Motikaranja early Saturday. Since then, he had been admitted to the United CIIGMA Hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU). Dr Sagar Sakle, spokesperson of Bombay Hospital, told The Asian Age, “He is in the ICU, under the treatment of Dr P.L. Saraf. He is recuperating, he is stable.”
Acting commissioner and special IG, Auran-gabad, Milind Bharambe said, “His condition here was critical and he was airlifted for further medical evaluation and treatment. He is currently in the ICU and recuperating. I am keeping track of it.” Mr Bharambe further said, “We are not permitting anyone to see him since there is a chance of developing secondary infections. Our team is assisting him and his family in Mumbai.”
However, when contacted, Mr Kolekar’s family declined to speak about his condition.
