FYJC forms: Available now
The online application process has been made more student friendly'.
Mumbai: After the declaration of Maharashtra Secondary School Certificate (SSC) results on Tuesday, students have now started the process of applying online for the First Year Junior College (FYJC) course in city colleges. However, it seems that around one lakh students might struggle to bag seats. While 3.8 lakh students passed in the Mumbai division, there are only around 2.8 lakh available seats across streams. According to a senior education department officer, the state may later issue a GR asking college managements to increase seats to accommodate students for FYJC.
The first merit list for admissions to FYJC will be released on July 7 for colleges under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Students can begin selecting their options for their colleges and streams online from Friday. Students seeking admission in FYJC started their procedure for the online admission forms that is up to June 27. This year, the state education department has added over 13,000 seats and 39 new colleges for the upcoming academic year where students can apply and seek admission.
Talking to The Asian Age, a senior official from the education dep-artment said, “In case of applications exceeding the number of seats ava-ilable, the state education department would allow colleges to increases the-ir intake capacity so that the excess applications can be accommodated.”
“Already, as compared to previous year, some colleges have exceeded their seats to accommodate the students for FYJC,” the official added.
The total intake capacity for Mumbai has gone up to 2,92,090 from 2,78,282 last year, with a total of 13,808 more seats up for grabs. This year, the total number of colleges in the Mumbai division has also gone up from 739 to 778.
The state has revamped the process to make it more ‘student friendly’, but students are anxious, as the revamp has only made it tougher for them to get a seat in a college of their choice. The entire process is expected to conclude by mid-August.
