1 naxal killed in encounter, CRPF jawan shoots self

Nagpur: A yet to be identified woman naxalite was killed in an encounter with the police in Karwafa area in Gadchiroli district early on Friday morning. While in another development, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan ended his life by shooting himself with service firearms, police said.

The naxalites took advantage of the darkness and fled from the scene leaving the woman naxal dead with some firearms. Police are trying to establish her identity. A CRPF jawan, posted in Gadchiroli, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon here on Friday morning.
The jawan was identified as Amit Kumar, who was working as sentry at the headquarters of the CRPF’s battalion no. 37 in Aheri taluka in the district.
While on duty, he allegedly fired two shots at himself with his service rifle. Kumar’s colleagues rushed him to a nearby hospital but he succumbed to the injuries on the way. The constable, hailing from Haryana, was transferred to the CRPF’s headquarters in Aheri from
Arunachal Pradesh around seven months ago, an CRPF official said. Sometime back he had gone to his hometown on a vacation and resumed services last month, he said.
The Gadhchiroli police has registered an accidental death report and initiated an investigation, the official said.
