Mumbai: After the Shiv Sena, the Mira-Bhayandar unit of the Congress party led by former legislator, Muzaffar Hussain, launched an agitation on Saturday against the steep hike in power bills following Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited’s taking over from Reliance Energy.

Hundreds of Congress workers marched to the AEML office on Goddev-Phatak Road in Bhayandar, shouting anti-Adani slogans. Some workers even vandalised the building premises. Mr Hussain said, “If the inflated bills are not rolled back and tariff rates are not revised to normalcy, an intensified agitation in the form of a non-cooperative movement will be launched from January. Consumers will be asked not to pay bills and meter readers will not be allowed to take readings.”
