Mumbai: The Kalwa police solved a murder case within 16 hours and arrested a woman and her paramour in connection with the incident. The woman had dumped the deceased person (her husband) and had been staying with the accused since past one month. When the victim objected to the same, the duo hatched the plan to kill him and after smothering him to death, dumped his body in an open drain far from their residences.
The paramour was tracked to Madhya Pradesh (MP) and arrested by the police.
The arrested accused were identified as Rubinababy Salmani (35) and her paramour Pralhadsinh Rajput alias Pintu (28), who was apprehended from his native in MP. They had murdered the woman’s husband Tajbabu Salmani (32), resident of Mahatma Phule slum pocket in Kalwa west.
After the unidentified body of Salmani was found in the open drain in Shanti Mafatlal slums, the police formed four teams to identify him. The officials then learnt that an unknown couple had co-me to their neighbourhood to enquire for renti-ng a place. The investigat-ors then succeeded in ide-ntifying Rubinababy who was tracked to Mumbra.
“She had changed her residence after the incident and was tracked to Mumbra. She identified the deceased to be her husband. Upon sustained questioning, she revealed that she and Rajput had executed the murder,” said an officer of Thane police.
The duo had been having an extra marital affair and was staying together since over a month, about which Salmani learnt. When he objected to the alliance, the duo had been having squabble on the same.
The accused asked Salmani to come to the Mafatlal slums under some pretext on December 8 where Rajput smothered him to death and dumped the body in the drain. Rajput who had fled to Rajasthan following the murder, was subsequently tracked to MP and was arrested by a team of Thane police.
