Mumbai: A school’s status will now be determined on the basis of academic performance of the students said the state education minister Vinod Tawde at the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) on Tuesday. According to Mr Tawde, the school’s development, digital reach and teacher’s efficiency will be considered secondary while student’s performance and the pass percentage of the class 10 students will determine a school’s status.

Mr Tawde has asked the schools to improve the academic performance of the students through various projects like skill development and aptitude test. Along with this, AT-KT examinations will be allowed for the class 10 students if they fail in any specific subject.

According to him, good quality education and marks of the students should be the most important factor for the government to judge the status of the school. He added that a large number of schools are focusing on facilities, services and infrastructure rather than academics. “The status of any school will be purely on the basis of educational merit, and nothing else would matter,” Mr Tawde said.

The minister claimed that more than 95 per cent schools in the state have turned digital.
