Mumbai: The Byculla women’s prison authorities are likely to submit by Wednesday their preliminary report in connection with the inquiry into how inmate Indrani Mukerjea, an accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, suffered an alleged drug overdose, sources said.

However, there is no clarity on how the alleged incident of “Benzodiazepine” overdose occurred due to the findings being inconclusive, officials said. They have recorded Indrani’s statement but she has refuted claims of consuming any tablets.

The prison authorities are considering the Hinduja Hospital report which concluded that the drug overdose did not occur. Prison sources said that Indrani’s final statement was recorded on Monday but she continued to stand by her earlier claims that she had no knowledge of popping any pills.

She also said that she was surprised to see the drug overdose report given by Hinduja Hospital. The report was in contradiction to the findings of J.J. Hospital which found nothing in the tests.

A prison officer said, “The report will soon be submitted to the additional director general of prisons. The process of recording Indrani’s statement was completed on Monday.”

However, the officials added that the alleged incident took place outside the prison premises when Indrani was being ferried to the court to attend the hearing in the Sheena Bora murder case. Indrani is one of the prime accused in the case. The prison authorities also checked the medical inventory in the prison but did not find any medicine missing.

The medicines are administered regularly and by following a SOP. The officials scanned the CCTV camera footage of both the prison and the court. Nobody else but Indrani’s legal counsel could be seen meeting her at the court, the officials said.
