Mumbai: A minor fire broke out inside the IT storeroom of the Mumbai International Airport Ltd. Pvt. (MIAL) at the domestic airport on Tuesday afternoon.
The smoke emitted from the office was towards the city side of the airport and hence did not hamper any of the flight operations.
An MIAL spokesperson said, “Smoke was detected in the IT storeroom of MIAL office. The fire brigade was immediately informed about it. The flight operations at the airport remained normal and unaffected, the official said.
The fire brigade officials were contacted at around 2.50 pm. The fire engines reached the spot at around 3pm.
“We got a call about smoke emanating from the IT storeroom located near the Terminal 1 arrival area.”
As a precautionary measure, four fire engines and four water tankers had rushed to the spot.
The fire brigade official said that they had to take precautions since the call was from the city airport.
The MIAL official also said that as soon as smoke was detected, the staffs were immediately evacuated from the office and the fire officers who reached the spot with the fire tenders began.
“The cause of the blaze is being investigated,” the fire brigade official said.
